Saint Martin’s Day (Festa de São Martinho) 2026

Saint Martin’s Day is an autumn tradition centred on community gatherings, roasted chestnuts and the tasting of young wine. In São Martinho parish, residents and visitors traditionally gather around the parish church for seasonal food, music and religious observances. Known as a magusto, the celebration commonly includes roasted chestnuts, bread, água-pé, local wine and other Madeiran specialities. Similar gatherings take place in villages and community spaces elsewhere across the island.
