Madeira Unlocked

Cookie & privacy policy

Updated on: 13.08.2026
Effective date: 28.04.2025

Madeira Insider, Lda. (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Madeira Unlocked mobile application (the “App”) and the website at madeira-unlocked.com (the “Website”). This Cookie and Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information, including how we use cookies and similar technologies.

1. Information we collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Personal information: If you create an account in the App or on the Website, we collect your email address and, if you set one, a username. You can sign in with email and password or with Google or Apple. Those providers then share with us the details needed to complete sign-in (typically your email and a provider user ID). If you contact us or submit forms, we may also collect your name, email address, and any additional information you provide voluntarily.
  • Usage data: We record interaction events in the App and Website (for example detail views, booking or info-link clicks, shares) to improve content and partner offers. Repeated interactions by the same person may be counted more than once.
  • Technical context: For first-party events we store at most coarse origin details such as platform (App or Website), app or web version, and language — not your account user ID.
  • First-party identifiers for product analytics: For these events we store a random first-party anonymous identifier and a session identifier so we can measure active users, returning usage, and simple usage paths. We do not store your account user ID and do not use any operating-system-provided device or advertising ID for this.
  • Guest favorites (Website): If you save an event or tip without logging in, we store a random guest identifier in this browser (separate from analytics) and the same identifier next to that heart in our database so the public save-count stays accurate. If you log in, we attach those hearts to your account. Clearing this site’s data in the browser removes the link to guest hearts on this device.

2. Cookies and tracking technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies include local storage and advertising identifiers used on mobile devices.

We use cookies and similar technologies for purposes such as:

  • Essential / functional: To remember basic preferences needed for the Website or App to work — including your cookie choices (stored locally), a short-lived dismissal of the app-download banner, and (if you save a favorite without logging in) a random guest-favorite identifier in local storage. These are not used for advertising.
  • Sign-in (Website, strictly necessary): If you log in, we set first-party session cookies from our authentication provider (Supabase) so you stay signed in on this browser. They are created only when you sign in or complete an email or Google/Apple login, and they are not used for advertising. The analytics/marketing banner does not control them. Signing out or deleting site cookies ends the website session.
  • First-party analytics (App and Website): We measure content interactions (views and clicks) and returning usage with a random first-party identifier and a session identifier, consistently across the App and Website. We do not use any operating-system-provided device or advertising ID for this. Third-party analytics and marketing tags on the Website are managed via Google Tag Manager and depend on your cookie choices.
  • Google Analytics and marketing tags (Website with consent; App separately): If you agree on the Website, we may run analytics and marketing tags through Google Tag Manager (for example Google Analytics). In the App, analytics may use Firebase Analytics (for app streams and e.g. Google Ads conversions) according to in-app consent where applicable.
  • Meta (Facebook) technologies: In the App, we may use Meta App Events / related advertising technologies to measure campaign performance and reach. On the Website, Meta tags — if used — are loaded via Google Tag Manager only after marketing consent.

Why we use them: to operate the service, understand usage and traffic sources, measure marketing effectiveness, and improve the experience.

Managing cookies: On the Website you can change your statistics and advertising cookie choices anytime via “Cookie preferences” in the footer. Necessary cookies — including sign-in if you are logged in — are required for those features and are not switched off by “Reject all”. Most browsers and mobile devices also let you block or delete cookies and limit advertising tracking in system settings.

3. How we use your information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and Website.
  • Improve the App, Website, and overall user experience.
  • Communicate with you about support inquiries, updates, and — if you opt in — promotional information.
  • Monitor and analyze usage, content signals, and — with consent — traffic sources (where permitted).

4. Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Information may be shared with service providers who process data on our behalf (for example hosting, authentication via Supabase, analytics, or support), or as required to fulfill legal obligations. If you choose Google or Apple sign-in, those providers process the login under their own terms.

5. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children’s privacy

The App and Website are not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information.

7. Deleting your user account

You may delete your user account at any time in the Madeira Unlocked app or on the Website. The same account is used in both; deleting it in one place ends access everywhere.

On the Website: Account → Delete account. In the App: Profile → Manage Account → Delete Profile.

Please note:

  • Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Associated account data will be removed and cannot be recovered.
  • Certain data may be retained if required by applicable legal, tax, or accounting obligations.

8. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Cookie and Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We encourage you to review this page periodically for any updates. Continued use of the App or Website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
