Screenings Funchal: The Straight Story – Uma História Simples

Based on a true story, The Straight Story follows Alvin Straight, an elderly man who travels hundreds of kilometres on a lawnmower to visit his seriously ill brother, from whom he has been estranged for several years. Moving away from the unsettling atmosphere usually associated with his work, David Lynch creates a remarkably sensitive film about ageing, reconciliation and family bonds. One of his most moving works, The Straight Story also reveals a very different side of Lynch and demonstrates the remarkable versatility of the director.
