Access

Footpath from the gravel track on the western side of the valley (better as an ascent than as a descent (finding the way on the terraces)!)
Condition
moderately difficult; just before the Madre a bypass on a small footpath
Remarks
A short levada with fine views towards Espigao and to the south. The way out from the Madre to the gravel track west of the Ribeira Grande is a little tricky (over old terraces that are no longer farmed)
A circular walk via the Crista do Espigao and then on to Espigao is possible (the path is quite overgrown), or via Fontes
