The Madre is not directly accessible; you have to walk there and back from the Calçada dos Fregueses Novos.

The Madre is not possible to reach (at least not for us); a pipe comes out of the thicket into the levada bed. First in the wood, then a slab path as far as the Calçada dos Fregueses Novos. Then a descent through banana plantations to the ER222. After that, by steps to the path above the bananas, and on, always above the shrubs, to the end.
