Course
After the Madre, which lies above a waterfall, first up levada steps and then into a maze of various poços.
From here on, somewhat overgrown, along the Ribeira da Caixa. View of the Madre area
Then below the Estrada Municipal da Ribeira da Caixa, crossing the Escadinhas da Ribeira da Caixa.
On below the retaining wall of the Estrada Municipal da Ribeira da Caixa, in places somewhat exposed and secured with railings.
On as far as the Via Rapida. This is passed above the tunnel portal, then on towards the Capela de Nossa Senhora das Preces; from here along the Travessa da Capela das Preces. Later it meets the Caminho das Heras here and then follows the Caminho da Levada do Salão as far as the passage under the VR1.
After that it crosses the valley of the Ribeira de Alforra and passes under the VR1 again on the other side of the valley. From here it runs in the road ditch, or piped, under the Caminho Levada do Salão to its end.
From here the fields in the valley of the Ribeira da Caldeira are irrigated by small terminal levadas.

Condition
In the Madre area somewhat adventurous and dangerous; after that narrow in places, but good to walk
Remarks
The Madre area is very narrow, exposed and slippery. Take care!
