Course

From the end of Lombo dos Tres Paus along the Levada do Curral e Castelejo upstream as far as Curral das Freiras. Return by bus, which stops just above the junction of the levada with the road. Get off here and walk back to the car.

Condition

Cleared as far as the Faja basin, with water flowing, exposed in places and with broken protection. After that increasingly ruined and overgrown, very exposed spots with no protection, very dangerous

Remarks

Hardly any walkers out, wonderful views, a brilliant course; for us the first of the top 3 levada walks on Madeira (Levada do Curral e Castelejo, Levada do Norte between Serra de Agua and Espigao and the section of the Levada do Furado between the Balcoes and the Madre.
