Course

From the end of the Levada do Canico to the Madre, back and ascent to Camacha, descent to the Levada dos Tornos, downstream to the stream crossing below Eiras de Dentro, back and ascent to the Reservatorio do Porto Novo, back to Camacha, descent to the Levada do Canico, back to the start

Distance: ca. 21 km ca. 350 Hm

Start 10.30 Assomada

End

15.30 Assomada

Condition

Levada do Canico easy as far as the ascent to Camacha, a few somewhat exposed spots; from here to the Madre increasingly narrower and more exposed, shortly before the Madre quite dangerous if you follow the levada consistently; a beautiful Madre! Levada dos Tornos unproblematic, in the area of the Ribeira do Porto Novo somewhat exposed and slippery

Remarks

The area around the Madre of the Levada do Canico is fascinating, but not entirely straightforward to reach. The most difficult spots just before the Madre can, however, be bypassed.
