12 July 2018 Levada finds on the way back from Paul do Mar, Miradouro da Faja da Ovelha

By car from Jardim do Mar to Paul do Mar. At the first hairpin we walked the small levada from the Ribeira das Galinhas (the lower western branch of the Levada do Paul do Mar). On to the small feeder levada of the eastern branch of the Levada do Paul do Mar.

On to the levada crossing of the Levada do Paul do Mar on the ER 223. From here to the Miradouro da Faja da Ovelha and the church of Faja da Ovelha.

Distance: 2 km, 20 m of ascent, 20 m of descent

Condition

The small levada from the Ribeira das Galinhas is narrow and should be walked with care.

The levada inflow to the eastern branch is narrow as well.

Remarks

We had seen the small levada of the western branch on the descent of the Vereda dos Zimbreiros (walk from Jardim to Paul do Mar). Next, from the first hairpin at the start of the levada, we found the feeder waterfall. We followed the road course of the eastern branch while driving, and came across the feeder levada by chance on the way.

We suspected a turnoff to the waterfall from the ER 223. We parked below the Restaurante O Precipio and found the junction very quickly.
