The Fajã dos Padres station is a plant for generating energy and for irrigating the fields below the steep cliff on the south coast.
Starting from a private initiative, the project was planned by the EEM and financed with public funds.
The water comes from the Levada do Norte Süd, and is diverted at Quinta.
The pressure pipe is 300 metres long and runs in the nearly vertical structure of the cliff lift down to the Fajãs dos Padres.
The capacity is 1700 kW. The station runs automatically and is unmanned.
It generates power only when there is enough water in the Levada do Norte Süd; otherwise it stands idle.
The water that leaves the generator house is enough to irrigate the sparse fields along the sea.
Further information is available on the EEM website.
