Course
A spectacular intake in the middle of the waterfall, then a stepped levada as far as the piping; from here it is buried in the access path and continues in the old path that served as the access track for building the two long tunnels of the Levada dos Tornos in Chão das Faias and today is hardly walkable all the way through. Shortly after the first long Tornos tunnel the water flows into the Levada dos Tornos.
End
Levada dos Tornos ca. 650 m a.s.l.
Function and use
Feeder to the Levada dos Tornos
Access
Chão das Faias
Condition
The old access path to Chão das Faias is easy to walk here and has been cleared. The path up to the Madre is increasingly exposed, but good to walk. The open course just before the Madre is a stepped levada with no side path, and it is extremely exposed. Here you can only continue with the greatest care, up to just before the waterfall. Here it is definitely the end. Recommended only for walkers who are very sure-footed and have absolutely no fear of heights!
Remarks
It is absolutely fascinating to experience at close quarters the risks, and the immense effort, with which every drop of water was fought for here.
