Condition

Ascent on the Vereda das Lages relatively easy to follow, path slippery, high steps in places; for about 200 metres you have to walk along the stream bed, then the path leaves to the left up to the ridge; ridge path in good condition; shortcut eastwards on a hollow way to the gravel track that leads down to the Levada do Rei; the path to Chao das Faias is overgrown and partly buried

Remarks

The aim of this walk was a circular route. The ascent had already been explored by 2 members of the Madeira forum, and so had the descent. The connection to Chao das Faias cannot at present be done with reasonable effort in a useful time, so a new plan: walk along the Levada do Rei and by road to Sao Jorge, from there a private taxi to Canico, and the car stayed overnight at the levada house
