Course

On the way to the Encumeada pass we fitted in another 2 stops, to catch the view up to the Encumeada waterfall from the Continente car park.

We also stopped at the viewpoint car park on the way to the Encumeada pass, for a look all round into the Ribeira Brava valley.

From the foggy, windy car park at the Encumeada we followed the Canal do Norte for about 10 minutes, until we could go on in the sun, at what felt like 20° warmer.

After the Folhadal tunnel of the Levada do Norte, on along the freshly cleared Levada das Rabacas.

Even though I have been here several times: the views are impressive every time, and for once you can look at the country around you, and not always at your feet....

At the exit of the long tunnel we turned back and enjoyed the beautiful spot by the levada house.

Back by the same path, and so what was, for the time being, the last stay on Madeira ended quietly at the Encumeada pass.

Distance: 10.5 km, 20 m of ascent, 20 m of descent

Start: 10.05 Encumeada pass

End

13.25 Encumeada pass

Condition

In principle an easy walk. A few of the low levada walls are a little exposed, but always wide enough!

Remarks

Glorious country, with views into the Ribeira Brava valley.
