Access
Section 1:
-
From the ER-202
-
Levada da Serra do Faial (bridge over the Ribeira de Joao Ferino)
-
ER-102 in Joao Ferino
Section 2:
-
ER-102 in Joao Ferino
-
Via the road to Santa Cruz, Levada dos Tornos
Section 3:
- Regional road between Joao Ferino and Santa Cruz (Lamarejas)
Condition
Section 1: From the Levada da Serra do Faial towards the Madre, easy; down the valley somewhat exposed at first, then moderate; from the piped stretch the path is overgrown and very hard to get through as far as the first fields, then easy on field paths
Section 2: Easy and in good condition
Section 3: Easy (along the road)
Remarks
Section 1 also serves to irrigate the fields above Joao Ferino (a branch off the piped part). The rest of the pipeline leads into Madre 2. There, water from the Ribeira de Joao Ferino is also still brought in.
On our visit in 2015 the levada carried water only as far as the Levada dos Tornos; after that it was dry
In 2017 I drove up the abnormally steep road from Santa Cruz and took the pictures of section 3 on the way
