The Levada dos Tornos runs from the valley at Boaventura on the north coast to Santa Cruz on the east coast.
It is the youngest (built in 1966) and, at 43 km, also the longest levada on Madeira, and it is enormously important for Funchal's drinking-water supply
and for irrigating the areas along the east coast.
It can be divided into the Levada dos Tornos with its northern section and the Levada dos Tornos with its southern section.
Above the place where the Levada dos Tornos Nord ends and passes into the Levada dos Tornos Süd lie the Tornos springs (Aguas dos Tornos),
whose water has been carried in pipes from the Ribeira Santa Luzia valley to Monte since 1914.
The two watercourses lie close together and cross in the Ribeira Santa Luzia valley, but they stay separate and can therefore be looked at on their own.
