Achadas da Cruz Cable Car + Fajã

We recommend Achadas da Cruz not just for the cable car ride, but also for what awaits at the bottom. The steep descent offers spectacular views of the cliffs and Atlantic before taking you down to Fajã da Quebrada Nova, a remote strip of land between the ocean and the towering cliffs. Once you’re down, take some time to explore rather than heading straight back up. Old agricultural plots, a small pebble beach and the dramatic cliffs rising behind you give the fajã a completely different feel from the viewpoints above. The cable car is also a great option if you want to experience this part of Madeira’s rugged west coast without tackling one of the steep walking trails. Tickets cannot be purchased online and are sold directly at the ticket office at the upper cable car station in Achadas da Cruz. We also recommend checking the operating conditions before setting off, as services can be affected by strong winds and other weather conditions.
