Miradouro da Boca da Corrida

Perched at over 1,000 metres above sea level, Miradouro da Boca da Corrida is one of Madeira’s most impressive mountain viewpoints. From here, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views stretching towards Funchal and across the dramatic Curral das Freiras (Nuns Valley), surrounded by the rugged peaks of Madeira’s Central Mountain Massif. But Boca da Corrida is more than just a viewpoint – it’s also a fantastic starting point for several hikes. The official PR 12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada begins here, following a historic route through the mountains towards Encumeada. Other popular hikes from Boca da Corrida include the challenging route to Pico Grande and the circular Trilho da Vereda da Trompica. Even if you’re not planning a hike, the drive up is well worth it for the scenery alone. On a clear day, this is a wonderful place to experience the scale and beauty of Madeira’s mountainous interior.
