Cabo Girão / Skywalk
About this tip
Cabo Girão is best known for its glass platform – but the sheer scale of this place is at least as impressive. The cliffs drop almost 580 metres down to the Atlantic, making this one of Madeira’s most spectacular viewpoints.
From the top, the views stretch along the south coast towards Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Directly below the cliffs, you can see the small cultivated plots of Fajã do Rancho and Fajã do Cabo Girão – from this height, they look almost unreal.
Cabo Girão is one of the island’s best-known attractions and can get quite busy, especially around midday. If you prefer a little more space and time to enjoy the view, try visiting earlier in the morning or later in the day.
The glass platform is certainly part of the experience. But for us, what really makes Cabo Girão worth visiting is the view of the immense cliffs and Madeira’s south coast.
