Course
From the car park on the Encumeada pass along the Canal do Norte, through the first tunnel of the Levada do Norte to Folhadal, 1 long tunnel, after a few metres a stepped path on the right (new from 2013, with a signpost) along PR17, ascent to the Levada do Plaino Velho, as far as the gravel track, along the Plaino Velho as far as the 3rd tunnel, back to the gravel track, along PR17 and the Levada da Serra to the Pinaculo and descent to Lombo do Mouro, on the road back to the Encumeada pass
Distance: ca. 18 Km ca. 700 m of ascent

Condition
Moderate, few exposed spots; the detour on the Plaino Velho is only for freaks, lonely, the path in places in very poor condition (2012); on walking it again in 2014, comfortably cleared as far as the Madre!
Remarks
An early start is advisable, as fog usually rolls in towards midday
