Course

Against the direction of flow on the Levada Nova de Machico as far as the Madre, a detour to the Sistema Elevatorio das Fontes Vermelhas works, on to the ER-236, a little downhill to the crossing of the Levada do Marocos 2 with the ER-236, to its Madre, back and on in the direction of flow along the Levada do Marocos 2, turn around above Marocos and a stair descent to the Levada do Canical, against the direction of flow looking for the Madre, on downhill by the road as far as Marocos, then Stair climb from Marocos back onto the Levada Nova de Machico, on in the direction of flow until there is no longer any flow of water, back to the car, to Marocos, climb up to the Levada do Canical, against the direction of flow and a stair climb to the Levada do Marocos 2, in the direction of flow as far as the end in the valley of the Ribeira das Cales, climb to the Levada do Marocos 3, to the Madre and then in the direction of flow as far as the first houses, descent to the Levada do Canical, against the direction of flow towards Marocos and descent to the Levada do Marocos 4 in the direction of flow as far as the bridge over the Ribeira das Cales, against the direction of flow as far as Marocos and down to the car

Condition

• Levada Nova de Machico quite exposed above the motorway, otherwise no problem

• Levada do Marocos 2 towards the Madre and about 200 metres after the crossing with the ER-236 very exposed and the path destroyed, caution!, further into the valley of the Ribeira das Cales the path has slipped away and is exposed, with no water flowing!

• The rest is easy with a little sense of direction

A somewhat muddled walk, with many improvised but very exciting detours in a very small area!
