Eira do Serrado viewpoint
About this tip
Eira do Serrado is one of Madeira’s classic viewpoints – and for good reason. At around 1,095 metres above sea level, it offers a spectacular view down into the deep valley of Curral das Freiras, surrounded by some of the island’s highest and most dramatic mountains.
Getting there is easy: from the car park next to Estalagem da Eira do Serrado, a short path leads uphill for around 300 metres to the viewpoint. As you make your way up, the view gradually opens up until you can look right across the valley and down to the village far below.
If you can, choose a clear morning for your visit. Clouds can move in quickly around the surrounding peaks and completely change the view within minutes. With good visibility, this is definitely one of those places that shows just how impressive Madeira’s mountainous interior really is.
It’s a well-known stop and can get busy, but the scenery makes Eira do Serrado a Madeira classic that’s still worth having on your list.
