PR3.1: Funchal Ecological Park Route

The Parque Ecológico do Funchal extends in the mountainous hinterland of the municipality of Monte - from the banks of the Ribeira de Santa Luzia up to the Pico do Areeiro at 1,818 metres above sea level. The protected area combines nature conservation, environmental education and leisure activities and offers marvellous views across the island. Well-maintained paths, picnic areas and a varied landscape make the park an ideal destination for walks, hikes, bike rides or sporting activities in the midst of nature. You can either park on the road or park at the highly recommended restaurant “Forrest Food and Coffee” (formerly: O Barracão) and walk from here to the start of the hike. In this case, however, you have to expect a few more metres in altitude and a little more distance 😉.
