Parque Florestal das Queimadas
About this tip
Parque Florestal das Queimadas is one of the most beautiful places in the north of Madeira. At around 850 metres above sea level, the park lies in the middle of the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and often feels like a small green world of its own.
Paths lead through dense laurel forest, where mist often creates a quiet and almost mystical atmosphere. The thatched forest house at the entrance, reminiscent of the traditional houses of Santana, is one of the island’s most recognisable photo spots.
Several hikes start here, including the popular trail to the Caldeirão Verde waterfall. At the same time, the park is also a lovely place for a quiet walk or a break in the forest among picnic areas and ancient trees.
