About this tip

Quinta do Santo da Serra is a spacious park located in the parish of Santo António da Serra in the east of Madeira. The former estate from the late 19th century was built by the Blandy family in English colonial style and later served as the official holiday residence of the President of the Regional Government. Today, the grounds are a public park and a popular place for walks and outings in nature. On the large meadows and among the old trees, visitors often encounter peacocks, fallow deer or the small Garrano horses. Picnic areas, a mini golf course and tennis courts make the park especially popular with families. From several points in the park, wide views open across the landscape around Machico towards Ponta de São Lourenço – and on clear days even as far as the island of Porto Santo. In spring, the many blooming azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias are particularly striking.
